The Society 2009 Events a Success

By Deborah Jackson
RBHS President
Our 2009 Historic and Architectural Home Tour entitled, "Centennial Celebration" was a great success. The tour featured two homes and a church celebrating 100th birthdays, as well as one home that will turn 100 next year, and three buildings that have already passed that milestone. Six of the homes on the tour were city landmarks. We also had a beautiful contemporary Craftsman that demonstrates that you can have cutting edge while still respecting Redondo's heritage. As in previous years, the tour was very well attended with over 200 participants. Thank you to all the volunteers and attendees who supported this event.
Three days after the Home Tour, the Historical Society, along with the Historical Commission, hosted the Southern California Heritage Coalition's quarterly event. The event featured a tour of both museums, a wonderful catered dinner by Critics Choice, and an interesting roundtable discussion. The event was attended by historic-minded individuals from all around the greater Los Angeles area. What a wonderful way to show off Heritage Court.
Also, it always is a great time to visit Heritage Court on weekends. Tours of the Morrell House museum are given by volunteer docents on Saturday and Sunday and are free to the public. The Morrell House library has the same hours of operation. The Queen Anne museum features a professional docent and is open free to the public on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays. Although the hours of both museums are limited, the beautiful gardens can be enjoyed anytime. Come and enjoy Redondo's rich history.
